The decision to try for a baby can bring a multitude of emotions. Excitement, trepidation, confusion and impatience might be just a few of them. When stepping into this new chapter, acupuncture is a great therapy to add to your toolkit to support you through this journey.
As a fertility specialist, I meet you where you are and help to guide you through the process, whether that’s at the start as you come off the pill and are looking for cycle regulation; right up to simply providing pre- and post-transfer treatments for IVF.
In short, I work to support you in your journey to conceive naturally, or as you step into assisted reproduction.
Working with you on your fertility journey
What working with me looks like
In the beginning, I take the time to look at your overall health, investigating such factors as digestion, stress, sleep, menstrual cycles if you are a menstruating person, and what tests you may have had. We’ll discuss BBT charting, when to time sex, best practice for sperm health and more besides.
If you’re further down your fertility journey and have had a difficult time of it, I work like a fertility detective, going through your medical history and tests to see where the gaps are in your investigations. If needed, I will suggest lines of investigation and further tests to try to get to the bottom of what is happening on the medical side.
Simultaneously, I will work with you from an acupuncture perspective to rebalance your body, reduce stress, improve your wellbeing and improve your chances of conceiving.
The ideal timeframe
While I work to support clients where you are in your journey, there is an ideal timeframe for us to be working together ahead of you trying to conceive, be that following coming off contraception, or starting your assisted reproduction treatment. This magic figure is three months.
This is because it takes roughly three months for eggs to mature, and the same again for sperm to be produced. In an ideal world, you will start making lifestyle changes, and coming for acupuncture, during this time, in order to positively influence the recruitment or creation and growth of eggs and sperm.
My Credentials
I have trained under fertility acupuncture experts Kirsten Wolfe and Naava Carman.
I am a Fertility Support Trained acupuncturist, which means I have undertaken further in-depth study in the field of fertility with Naava Carman, including deep dives into such areas as reproductive immunology, PCOS and endometriosis.
New findings are continually being announced in the field of reproductive medicine. One of the requirements of being a Fertility Support Trained acupuncturist is to complete further study in this subject annually, ensuring that my knowledge is kept up to date.
